The O’Hair Park Summer Sports Program is a (4) week month-long Summer Program The program will be based out of the Corpus Christi Parish Rainbow Room (19800 Pembroke Detroit, 48219) in collaboration with our neighbor, Henry Ford High School (20000 Evergreen, Detroit, 48219).
This program was oriented for youth who live in the Northwest Detroit area and in our fifth year of success, the program will offer activities such as: Basketball, Volleyball, Cheer-Leading, Tennis, Dance, Flag Football, Martial Arts, Motivational Talks, Small Group Discussions, Speakers, Field Trips, snacks, water, and lunch for youth ages 10 to 16.
The camp begins with the youth participating in exercise, playing basketball, and doing drills. They are supervised by a credentialed trainer and staff. The youth are then divided into sub groups based on their personal interest in a sport and/or activity for approximately 1.5 hours.
After the activities, staff engages the youth in thinking and talking about important matters with regard to growing up. Encouraging leadership of the 75 youth participants, the camp staff will then challenge them by engaging them in discussions on meaningful topics of their choice. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Education, Crime and the Criminal Justice System, Anti-Bullying Mechanisms, Self-Esteem/Self Confidence, Conflict Resolution, Leadership and Service, Career Explorative, Faith, Family/Support Systems, and Abstinence.
