As we
read in the Gospels, people came to Jesus for healing. Those
afflicted with blindness, leprosy, the deaf, the dumb, those who were
crippled and suffered from every kind of affliction found healing
in the presence of the Lord. After his death and resurrection, Jesus
instructed his followers to continue his ministry of preaching and
healing.
In the
Letter of James we read, “Are there any
who are sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church
and let the priests pray over them and anoint them with oil in the
name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick persons.”
We continue the saving action of the risen Lord in the Sacrament of
the Sick. Anyone in the community who is seriously ill, is preparing
for an operation, or has chronic illness or is advanced in age is welcome
to receive this healing sacrament.
Simply contact the parish office to arrange to celebrate the
Sacrament of the Sick (313-537-5770).
Occasionally the parish will also have a communal celebration of the
Sacrament of the Sick at a special healing mass.
